Concours du Soleil Names Mercedes Spezial Roadster “BEST OF SHOW”

22/09/2009

80 Collector Cars Are Showcased During Event

Concours du Soleil hosted some of the state’s rarest vehicles and hundreds of spectators last weekend during the annual Concours du Soleil. “Our show blends automotive design, craftsmanship and history,” says Concours founder Jerry Roehl, “I’m still trying to catch my breath.”

Concours du Soleil concluded when a 1935 500K Mercedes Spezial Roadster was named “Best of Show.” The winning car was the featured car at the 1936 Paris Auto Show where it was purchased by Californian Robert Day and sold in 1974, (38 years later), to a resident of New Mexico.

The “People’s Choice” award was presented to a 2003 Lamborghini Murcielago shown in a rare custom color, Giallo Orion.

Proceeds from Concours du Soleil will be awarded through the Albuquerque Community Foundation’s grant program and to All Faiths Receiving Home, Children’s Cancer Fund of NM and NM Appleseed.
