ABQ Community Foundation Announces 38% Increase in Donations

11/03/2011

Charitable Assets Top $53 Million

Albuquerque— As the economy slowly recovers, the Albuquerque Community Foundation is growing at a strong rate — during the 2010 calendar year it received $5.1 million in contributions, 38% more than the year before. Donations increased in giving categories including individual, family and planned giving.   Permanent charitable assets grew to $53 million.

“The Foundation is the community’s savings account”, states Randy Royster, Executive Director, “it is our job to build a permanent fund that will generate income to benefit the community forever while also granting a portion to meet pressing needs facing the community today.

During 2010, the Foundation was able to respond favorably to grant proposals with $2.7 million awarded to important programs, relied upon by the underserved in the greater Albuquerque community.   “At a time when many human services organizations are struggling to keep up with needs, the Foundation directed grants to fund programs for homelessness, hunger and domestic violence”, Royster said, “but many of our grants, at the request of our donors, supported the arts, education, animals and the environment”.  Some of the organizations the Foundation and its donors supported include Art in the School, YWCA, Meals on Wheels, Senior Arts, the Storehouse and the New Mexico Collaboration to End Hunger”.
