Connecting with Children
Donors: Family and Friends of Lynn Rosner
One of the funds contributing to grants in the Children and Youth Field of Interest is the Lynn Rosner Memorial Fund, established with contributions from Lynn's many friends and relatives after her death from ovarian cancer in 1996 at the age of 52.
Lynn had worked tirelessly in the nonprofit field for 20 years on behalf of women, children and families in need. Over the years, she was director of the Albuquerque Rape Crisis Center and YWCA Piñon Canyon Center.
Lynn gave thousands of young people, their parents, teachers, and others a more sensitive and lasting understanding of their connections to the worlds of nature, themselves, and others. Lynn is remembered for her empathetic and caring approach to the human and natural worlds, and her parents, Hy and Joan Rosner, see this endowment fund as a way to continue her work.
This fund has contributed to grants for programs that encourage and challenge young people to benefit their communities for the common good. Recipients have been as diverse as Lynn's interest:
VSA arts of New Mexico to provide matching support for the AmeriCorps School Residency Program for young adults to work in an arts education program with mixed ability adults and APS students
New Mexico MESA's Buddies Program for Washington Middle School students to mentor 5th grade students at Dolores Gonzales Elementary School in science and math while encouraging community service, leadership potential and creative thinking.
Bosque School's Ecosystem Monitoring Program to conserve the bosque with students from public schools participating in the field research and in collaboration with UNM Department of Biology.
