Explora! Youth Intern Program
This summer, the Foundation supported Explora's Youth Intern Program - an interactive summer experience in which high school students gain and practice job-skills, including effective communication, professionalism, resume-writing, interviewing, customer-service, and teaching in an informal setting. The internship helps students prepare for the future through mentoring and opportunities to explore colleges, STEM careers and lifelong learning.
During the summer's four-day annual Youth Intern Senior Trip, students met with admissions staff of New Mexico State University and New Mexico Tech, and toured the campuses. They visited research labs, tracking species of Zika-carrying mosquitos in New Mexico and analyed algae for biofuel. Finally, the interns enjoyed a behind-the scenes tour of the reptile collection of the Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science - and, as on any good road-trip, found some adventure spotting a rattlesnake in the hotel parking lot, and tasting the Trinidad Mouruga Scorpion pepper.
