Wonder Women meet Doña Tules |
The Foundation’s Wonderful Women of Philanthropy gathered in the parlor of a beautiful New Mexico home for an enjoyable afternoon of refreshments and tête-à-tête. Everyone was surprised when Doña Tules joined our group. “La Tules” was one of the most colorful, independent, wealthy, and influential Hispanic women in New Mexico history. She operated an elaborate gambling establishment in Santa Fe and played a prominent role in the bustling world of 1840’s Santa Fe. Doña Tules was committed to improving the lives of people in New Mexico. She adopted young orphan children and provided for them throughout their lives. She also built a cathedral for local residents.
"La Tules" captured the hearts of the Wonderful Women of Philanthropy during this enchanted afternoon.
