Donor Stories
Henrietta Anderson
Henrietta Anderson was an extraordinary woman who was the matriarch of a prominent New Mexico family.
Her husband, Clinton P. Anderson, was the U.S. Congressman and Senator from New Mexico and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture under the Truman administration.
While Mrs. Anderson was widely known as a beautiful lady and a gracious hostess in both Albuquerque and Washington, DC, her commitment to voluntarism and philanthropy was also remarkable. From serving coffee and donuts to American servicemen in WWI and volunteering with the USO in WWII to supporting education and other important causes in New Mexico, Mrs. Anderson displayed her love of people and community.
She also actively supported her husband's landmark legislation in conservation, reclamation, agriculture, Indian affairs, atomic energy and Medicaid.
Mrs. Anderson's late son, Sherb Anderson, was a founding donor to the Albuquerque Community Foundation and a loyal supporter. His sister, Nancy Anderson Roberts, joined her mother and brother in also becoming a generous supporter of the Foundation and many other organizations in the community.
Nancy and her mother were honored at the Foundation's 1994 Annual Grants Award luncheon. Mrs. Clinton P. Anderson passed away during the summer of 1994 at the age of 95 at her South Valley home. She contributed generously to the Foundation during her lifetime and also left a large, unrestricted bequest to the Foundation to meet those community needs deemed most current and important by the Foundation. The bequest has been placed in several different fund areas.
