Donor Stories
Gordon Church
In 1996 the Albuquerque Community Foundation presented Gordon Church with the “The FUNd Award for Individual Contribution to the Arts.”
At the time, Gordon wrote, “I have long seen my position as one focused in the intersection of city government and the arts; enhancing Albuquerque’s arts and cultural environment is good for everyone.”
Gordon spent his career guiding the City’s nationally acclaimed Public Art Program from inception in 1978 until he retired in 2004. However, The FUNd award also recognized Gordon’s personal volunteer work to support the arts community – from dance to advocacy to the visual arts. When Gordon died, he left an estate gift to the Foundation that will benefit Arts programs forever. The Gordon Church Endowment Fund will ensure his memory will continue to inspire.
