Donor Stories
Emanuel Blaugrund
Along with success came Mr. Blaugrund's recognition of the importance of supporting community issues and organizations.
Originally establishing a private foundation, the family set a precedent in 1995 when they transferred their foundation assets to a donor-advised fund at ACF. This advised fund allows the family complete flexibility when choosing their annual grant recipients. Each year, family members are able to assess the community's most important needs and grant their dollars accordingly.
A general charitable endowment fund was established at the Community Foundation from the Emanuel and Freida Blaugrund private foundation. This new fund sets a precedent in the transference of a private family foundation to ACF. The Blaugrund family's dedication to the Albuquerque community has a long history.
Emanuel Blaugrund, founder of American Home Furnishings, came to Albuquerque in the 1930s and opened his first store in 1936 in downtown Albuquerque. With steady growth over the years, American Home has now expanded to eight stores in New Mexico and Arizona.
The Blaugrunds came to realize that their gifts strengthened their community. Each year the company gives staff time along with cash and merchandise contributions to literally hundreds of arts, human services, youth and educational organizations.
