Anne B. Little

The daughter of a poor Russian immigrant, Anne B. Little learned firsthand the importance and impact of philanthropy.

Her family had received assistance from the Dallas Hebrew Free Loan Association during the Great Depression, and she never forgot the generosity of those who made that $10 loan possible. Anne remembered the Association in her estate plans with a bequest of $700,000.

nne also wanted to help the Albuquerque community that she had come to call home. So on the recommendation of her financial advisors, she established the Anne B. Little Revocable Trust in 1991, naming the Community Foundation as the beneficiary and outlining her charitable wishes through funds within the Foundation.

After her death in 1998, the Community Foundationwas notified of this estate gift consisting of a personal residence with all contents, personal property including a car and jewelry, and oil and gas properties.

During the following months, the Foundation and Mrs. Little's trustee arranged for a complete inventory, appraisal, and sale of all real estate and personal property. The estate's real challenge, however, was in the oil and gas properties that included leases on federal, state, and Indian-owned land in New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Alaska. Nearly four years passed as the Foundation carefully sold Mrs. Little’s oil and gas properties.

Four separate endowment funds reflecting her interests were established in the areas of Education, Health, Senior Citizens and the Aquarium & Botanic Garden.
