HOW TO GIVE...

Giving to Albuquerque Community Foundation is as diverse as a donor's circumstances. The flexibility of ACF allows gifts to be made in a variety of ways. The Foundation works with donors on a personal level to understand which type of giving is best suited to their charitable intentions.

Making a Gift Now!

Giving now can result in the personal satisfaction of fulfilling charitable interests during one's lifetime and the immediate recognition from recipients, peers, and the community at large. Many gifts also result in tax savings and increased income flow.

Memorial Gifts

Donors may choose to name Albuquerque Community Foundation to receive memorial contributions on behalf of a loved one. The family may designate an existing endowment fund to receive the memorials or start a new fund. If the amount of contributions received reaches $5,000, the family may establish a named unrestricted or field-of-interest endowment fund as a permanent legacy.

Should the family choose to establish a new fund, the details can be worked out at a later date. If the amount of memorials received is less than $5,000 the family may choose to designate the contributions be added to an existing fund within the Foundation or make a one time grant to a nonprofit organization in memory of their loved one.

Considerations and steps for establishing a memorial fund:

  • Notify ACF of the family’s decision.

  • Choose the name to be used (the Fund Name).

  • Choose the general or specific direction of the memorials.

  • Notify ACF of the person who should receive the information when donations are made – the family will receive the name and address of each donor.

  • Include the following information in the obituary:
    Fund Name, Albuquerque Community Foundation,
    P.O. Box 36960, Albuquerque, NM 87176-6960.

  • ACF will thank each donor individually.

Matching Gifts

Matching gifts from a past or present employer can trigger a corporate match to increase support and encourage a company to spread their contributions over a broader base.

Establishing a Deferred Gift

Deferred or planned gifts are those that typically are made upon death, or which involve lifetime financial benefits to the donor, or which are purposefully structured to minimize estate, gift or income taxes. In short, they are gifts that require some planning.

Deferred gifts established during a lifetime or by will allow the donor to divide property between loved ones and charitable beneficiaries, saving estate taxes in the process. With deferred giving, both donor and charity benefit over the years.

Community foundations specialize in the concept of planned giving for at least two reasons. First is that planned giving is especially suited to the type of capital wealth community foundations attract. Secondly, conveyance of capital gifts generally signify creation of a philanthropic legacy, and community foundations embody legacy giving.

ACF may be named as the residuary beneficiary of an estate, as the recipient of a specified gift or contingent bequest, or as the ultimate recipient of the assets of a charitable remainder trust.

Ray Zimmer Heritage Society

The Ray Zimmer Heritage Society of Albuquerque Community Foundation is composed of individuals who have designated a substantial planned gift to the Foundation or for distribution through the Foundation to other charities.
