Step 2B: Guidelines for Faith-based Organizations
Grants from the Foundation’s Competitive Grant Program are not made for religious purposes but are often made to faith-based organizations for the non-religious programs offered to the broader community.
Below are some general guidelines to assist your agency in determining its eligibility to receive a grant through the Foundation’s Competitive Grant Program.
Characteristics of eligible programs:
- May be located in a house of worship;
- May use the same room, but not at the same time for religious and non-religious programs
- Religious programs are separated from non-religious programs
- Are open to all, regardless of religious affiliation
- Abstain from religious worship, instruction, or proselytization (recruitment)
- Eliminate required statements of belief from participants
Descriptions of previously funded programs include:
- Food pantry operated out of a church
- Shelters and transitional housing
- ESL classes
- Classical music series
- Drug and alcohol counseling services
- Educational health workshops
