Grant Stories
St. Martin’s Hospitality Center
“Jump Start on a New Life” is a program developed by St. Martin’s Hospitality Center, a drop-in center for homeless people that averages 246 visitors each weekday.
The majority of these people have no job or money, are homeless and destitute. A surprisingly large number are victims of theft, losing their wallet, purse or backpack and their identification along with it.
A Foundation grant was used to “jump-start” lives by funding vouchers to obtain birth certificates so state ID’s or driver’s license’s could be obtained thus allowing homeless individuals to apply for state welfare benefits, Social Security Disability or Retirement, and enroll their children in school.
