Keshet Dance Company
This high school dance program operates within YDDC, the statewide detention facility for youth.
The goal of the program is to inspire youth to think beyond the world of incarceration. The dance programs are designed to facilitate growth in social skills so students can develop a better sense of self, working together and peaceful conflict resolution.
When students dance together, they begin to gain self-confidence while developing trust and empathy for their peers and teachers. They experience how vital their participation is to the success of the dance. Keshet staff uses dance to address the issue of violence, and how to respond to it in daily life. The professionally trained Keshet staff inspire, mentor and befriend the youth while modeling respect and discipline.
