Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless

Without AHCH’s dental program, there would be virtually no dental care for homeless people in Albuquerque.

Initiated in 1988 in response to the overwhelming dental service needs of clients seen by AHCH medical staff, the dental program provides a variety of services, including those that are routine (such as fillings and extractions), preventive (like oral cancer screenings, hygiene instruction, and cleanings), emergency, and elective. Over one 12-month period, 1,600 unduplicated clients were treated. Clients are encouraged to finish a full course of treatment, since their contact with AHCH may provide one of the few opportunities for them to address their dental needs.
